QUEEN SONGS REVIEW
Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
Album Release Date : Jan 28,2014
Queen is an upcoming Bollywood film starring Kangana Ranaut , Lisa Haydon and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles. The film is directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap, who has the taste for hard hitting films. All the songs are composed by Amit Trivedi except for ‘Ranjha’ which is composed by Rupesh Kumar Ram.
The album begins with a vigorous Punjabi flavored track sung with great energy by Labh Janjua. The orchestration is essentially techno blended with the desi touch having Punjabi musical instruments. The lyrics are funky describing about a Punjabi girl arriving in the huge city of London.
A fantastic track arrives next with great Punjabi styled vocals in the background of a brilliant blend of modern rock and Hindustani flavor. The composer Amit Trivedi himself renders this song with fantastic perfection- it narrates a story in terms of music and lots of passion is ingrained in it. The bass strings are one of the highlights of the song and watch out for the brilliant sitar solo which arrives in between.
An essential House mix track with power packed rhythm section and breezy vocals. Though the track is paced up, the singing, orchestration and everything possess soul and melody. It has a faint resemblance to the 90s Europop music but retains its own individuality.
A beautiful country styled track arrives in the melodious voice of Arijit Singh now. The country styled genre is infused with seamless perfection. Besides the ’Grease’ styled groove, the best part of the track perhaps is the rhythm section and power packed vocals by Arijit Singh.
A breezy melody arrives with great pace yet again in the voice of Amit Trivedi. The breeziness is wonderfully complemented by power packed electric guitars and chorus as well. The track carries a huge optimistic feel throughout its progress making it a sure winner!
The album reaches a crescendo with an emotional and impactful track in the mesmerizing voice of Nandini Srikar. Once again the lyrics deserve a special mention for the poetic touch and the orchestration is essentially breezy with Indian styled percussions blended with Saxophone.
A fantastic track with lot of zeal and mesmerizing orchestration arrives next. The touches of Grand Piano woven with the impactful string section make it a great hearing. The appearance of Sitar in the midst of Techno orchestration is another great experimentation by the composer.
The album comes to an end with a traditional Punjabi track sung in fresh styled by Rupesh Kumar Ram. The track carries an undercurrent theme of the complete album with almost minimal orchestration- yet making a great impact on the listener.
