MUNDASUPATTI SONGS REVIEW
Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
Album Release Date : Apr 28,2014
Mundasupatti is an upcoming adventure comedy film starring Vishnu and Nanditha in the lead roles. Music is composed by Sean Roldan who earlier gave Vaayai Moodi Pesavum and Sathuranga Vettai. The film is written and directed by Ram Kumar.
A rustic Tamil folk track in the voice of Vivek Narayan welcomes the listener to the world of rural music in the midst of familiar percussions and competent orchestration.
A progressive melody with some phenomenal guitar touches in the midst of flute arrives for the listener’s pleasure. Pradeep Kumar’s flawless voice adds a special value to the composition and Kalyani Nair’s sweet rendition gives it a special touch. The flute solo in the first interlude is a highlight for the track. Despite the modern orchestration, the track carries a great indigenous flavor throughout.
This track has folk styled vocals blended in the midst of country stlyed guitar picks, a lilting violin section and jazzy singing in the interludes. Rita does a fairly good job in her raw folk voice along with the composer Sean Roldan who joins in on the folksy feast.
It is time for some modern jazz next with an interesting track sung by the composer himself. The usage of jazz instruments such as horns, syncopated rhythms and a challenging tune is a huge asset for the track. The basslines work quite well along with the detailed interludes.
A competent symphony section with a peculiar rhythm builds a wonderful world of melody in the voices of Haricharan and Kalyani Nair. The track has an inexplicable eeriness blended with its phenomenal melody. The interludes are entertaining with piano touches, violin and some brilliant flashes making the track a sure shot winner!
The funkiest track of the album arrives in a solo version now sung by the composer Sean Roldan himself. He gives the track an earthly feel with his bass voice and his diction creates wonders for the composition. Rest of the orchestration however is the same as the previous version.
The album closes with a folk flavor blended with modern guitars and vocals by the supremely talented Anthony Dasan. The track has fantastic rhythm section with thavil, and the bass work follows brilliantly with the string section. The track carries a country flavor blended skillfully with rural folk flavor. The presence of harmonica is another asset.
