VANAVARAYAN VALLAVARAYAN SONGS REVIEW

The beautiful melody with rustic flavor in Yuvan Shankar Raja’s voice scores despite the power packed rhythm.  Yuvan's electronica blends well with the contrasting folk flavor. As a singer Yuvan delivers a laid back rendition for this.

An out and out folk styled track sung by Karthik Raja and Venkat Prabhu. The gripping rhythm with occasional guitar and bass work touches makes it an enjoyable listen. The interludes are well laden with nadaswaram and string section. However, the singers could have sounded more energetic for such an upbeat track.

In contrast with the raw folk numbers, it is time for a breezy melody. Nevertheless, the rhythm is essentially kuthu based but the melodic touch is retained. The vocalists Vijay Yesudas and Renu give a masterful rendition. However, the orchestration takes the front seat dominating the lead vocals. 

Next up is a hybrid of kuthu and trance with good use of recurring orchestration and wonderful ambience. The singer sounds very similar to Yuvan Shankar Raja in terms of diction as well as rendition. Usage of carnatic styled nadaswaram add a nice touch to the track while the interludes have a good groove of guitars with pleasant chorus.

A melancholic number with some great folk styled rendition by Manickam Vinayagam provides an earthliness to the track. The rhythm is mellowed with some impactful chorus supporting the lead singer. Based on the carnatic raga Sivaranjani, which is essentially used to depict sadness- it blends some good fusion with thavil and electric guitar.

A paced up track with some funky lyrics bring the album to a close in the combined voices of Ranjith, Sathyan, Priya Hemesh. The track has a decent groove going for it and the kuthu rhythm makes sure its presence is felt yet again, retaining the flavor of the album. Unfortunately, this track also has an overdose of instruments which makes the lead vocalist’s rendition paled out.
