A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY FOR OUR 'SINGAM' SURIYA

One of the most hardworking actors in the Indian film industry, Suriya turns 40 today, the 23rd July. Suriya was introduced to the industry in director Vasanth's Nerukku Ner and in the initial years he was known better as Sivakumar's son. But once Nandha came in 2001, it all changed for the handsome man as his efforts in the movie paid the right dividends and put him on the path to stardom.

 

After few other good movies like Mounam Pesiyathe, Gautham Menon's Kaakha Kaakha happened in 2003 and Suriya was well on his way with nothing or nobody to stop him. Despite the presence of other young guns like Vijay, Ajith and Vikram, Suriya quickly established himself as a star in his own right.

He also proved his performing credentials in films like Pithamagan and Perazhagan while movies like Ghajini, Aaru and Vel widened his mass appeal and reach. Ghajini particularly can be considered as a huge commercial break which took Suriya all over the world. His looks and styles for the movie are unforgettable till date.

 

After Varanam Aayiram in 2008, Suriya earned widespread respect and acclaim in a lifetime role. Further commercial sure-shots like Ayan, Aadhavan and Singam made Suriya a universal hero and put him right up there as a superstar, rivaling every other icon in the industry.

 

7am Arivu and Maattrraan would always be memorable to any Suriya fan for their sheer scale and the extent to which the star went for these films. Singam 2 was a massive worldwide grosser despite average reviews while Anjaan and Masss proved that even a big star like Suriya has to go through testing hardships in his career.

 

With 24, Singam 3 and many other promising films up his sleeves, Suriya would be raring to go and reclaim the king's throne in the coming months. Here's wishing this pan-Indian star and a true leading light a very happy birthday and all the happiness with Jyothika, Dev, Diya and his family.
