KAANCHI SONGS REVIEW

Kaanchi is an upcoming drama film written and directed by the most celebrated personalities of Bollywood, Subhash Ghai. The music for the film is composed by the talented duo Salim and Sulaiman along with the versatile composer Ismail Darbar.
The album begins with a serene yet impactful start having an orchestration resembling new age music. The mellowed treble, soft chorus suddenly launches to heavy rhythm and thumping guitars. The child chorus leads to the powerful voice of Sukhwinder Singh. The track has a great undercurrent energy which takes the listener to the world of rustic lands.
A beautiful melody arrives next with mellifluous voice of Anwesha welcoming the listener. Her voice has a striking resemblance with Shreya Ghoshal but she retains an unique flavor. The poetic lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil deserve a special mention. It also has a yesteryear Bollywood melody feel with respect to the orchestration, usage of harmonica and the laid back rhythm.
In contrast to the laid back beginning, the album leads to a modern track having a strange Arabic flavor. The celebrated singer Mika gives the song the much needed punch with his confident voice. The rhythm is steady in pace and the orchestration is somewhat minimal in comparison with the current day party tracks. However, the lack of blend between the Arabic flavor and the electronic music is quite evident as the track progresses.
A racy track with an impressive bass guitar section surprisingly begins with the tune of “Sare Jahan Se Accha” leading to a completely different funky composition. The interludes are well woven with yesteryear feel but the tune seems to reach no man’s land.
The album shifts to an eerie mode with earthly singing by Ankit Tiwari. The track has a great emotion throughout its progress with decent string section and good usage of chorus in the right places. The track is interestingly based on Hindustaani Raag Poorvi- which is extensively used for expressing heavy emotions.
Another Arabic flavored party track arrives in the confident voice of Neeti Mohan - who singlehandedly takes the track forward. The Punjabi flavor is irresistibly brought again to blend with the Arabic disco flavor. The track features most of the earlier hit songs from Subhash Ghai films, making it lively and nostalgic.
A proper dance track arrives now which has an unmistakable influence of 90s Pop songs. Sonu Nigam brings some melody into the party track but somehow the entire composition sounds out of place for the present day listeners.
An aggressive track arrives from the passionate voices of Sukhwinder Singh and Mohit Chauhan. The tune blends brilliantly with its thought provoking partriotic lyrics. The hard rock styled take on a message oriented song is good experimentation. The electric guitars follow the vocalists with perfect ease and the bass guitar works wonders.
The album comes to a finale stage with a folkish number sung well by Sanchita Bhattacharya in an unpretentious rustic voice. This short piece is well presented with decent orchestration and foot tapping rhythm section.
