GULAAB GANG SONGS REVIEW
Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
Album Release Date : Jan 28,2014
Gulaab Gang is an upcoming Bollywood film starring yesteryear heart-throbs Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla in the lead roles. Mahie Gill, Shilpa Shukla and Tannishtha Chatterjee play the other key roles in the film. Music for the film is composed by Soumik Sen.
The album begins with a lively Hindustani folk track well laden with strings, and electric guitar touches. The track is well equipped with a power packed rhythm and a great flavor of the North Indian folk genre. The tune is based on the hindustaani raag Megh and is a sure winner for the fresh sounding and great vocal performances!
This interesting track begins in the hindustaani raag Jog with wonderful western and jazzy touches. The voice of Kaushiki Chakrabarty, the renowned hindustani classical singer does justice to the composition. Beautiful lyrics, lilting vocals and an amazing progression from the pure hindustani track to a paced up folk number makes for another brilliant aspect of this track. The string section and the percussions offer the right support.
A funky track laden with layers of Indian percussions and peppy vocals give it a unique flavor. The interludes are blended wonderfully with flamenco guitars amidst the rich North Indian musical aroma. However, the track loses its intensity somewhere in between.
Another breezy solo from the voice of the immensely talented Kaushiki Chakrabarty arrives next. Her flawless voice and freshness adds so much to the laid back yet invigorating composition and mellowed orchestration. The earthly flute, relaxed guitars and minimal percussions create an unique ambience.
In contrast with the laid back melody, a paced up colorful track makes its entrance now. The beautiful Indian flavor the track carries is blended brilliantly with modern orchestration. Kaushiki Chakrabarty carries the track forward with a balance of confidence and character. The track is loosely based on the most loved hindustani raag- Kaapi.

The album comes to an end with a lilting melody sung by the composer himself. The track is well equipped with guitars and mellowed percussions. The earthly voice adds brilliant value to the track giving a positive feel for the album.
