Vijay Antony starrer Naan’s press meet was held yesterday at Prasad Lab, Chennai. Speaking at the event director Jeeva Shankar introduced himself as the cinematographer of Anandha Thandavam and said, “Naan is my directorial debut and I think I have come up with a different story. Normally in a film, there will be a protagonist and an antagonist who opposes the former’s ideas. But in my film, Vijay Antony plays both. The film is about a man and his approach to life. Mani Ratnam says that a success of a film depends on its characters. I have chosen the best man for the character.” He added, “I initially wanted Ilayaraja sir to compose the music. But I‘m very happy that Vijay Antony could provide whatever I had in my mind.”
Vijay Antony, who is debuting as a hero in his 25th musical, said, “Jeeva was my college mate. When I decided to act, I got many scripts, but the script Jeeva showed me was very exciting. All the three actresses in the film, Rupa Manjari, Anuya and Vibha have done a good job. Anuya appears in a small role. But she didn’t say no to us when we asked her to take up the role. Though small, her character brings twists in the story. Rupa keeps calling me anna. It was and is still difficult for me to maintain an onscreen chemistry with her. But she is an extraordinary actress.” He also said, “I have to thank my wife to have given me strength and encouragement to take it to acting. My mother wanted to see me as a musician and my wife wants me to see me as an actor. I have satisfied my mother. Now it’s time I satisfy my wife’s wish.”
