Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu had earlier announced that he would be donating his earnings of his book Moondram Ulaga Por to the families affected in the Cauvery delta region. The book itself, heavily researched, was based on the lives of the people residing in the Cauvery delta belt.

Yesterday, 12^th April, the official ceremony of the Ilakiya Sinthanai Awards was held in the city and Vairamuthu was presented with an award for his book Moondram Ulaga Por. He also received a cash prize of Rs. 11 Lakh for the same.

Vairmuthu, displaying great generosity and empathy, said that he would be distributing his prize money to 11 families, each receiving Rs. 1 Lakh. In his speech he condemmed the Prime Minsiter’s suggestion that farmers ought to look beyond farming and said that the amount of care given to protect the Himalyan range must be given to the farmers of this region too.
