Pran to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Apr 13, 2013
Veteran Bollywood actor Pran, who is aged 92 at the moment, will be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest official recognition for the film fraternity. Pran is popular for his roles in blockbuster such as Zanjeer and Don. Over the span of his career he has worked with literally all the top heroes of the industry. He was infact the one who had suggested Amitab Bachchan’s name to Prakash Mehra for the lead role in Zanjeer, which shot him to overnight stardom.
Pran retired from the industry in the mid 90s and in 2001 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan. His health has been unstable over the past few months as he has been bed ridden in the hospital. His family members are ecstatic over the news and deem it as a great honor. The official ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 3rd.
The notable Dadasaheb Phalke awardees include Satyajit Ray, Dev Anand and Yash Chopra.
