Chennai Express is on a record breaking spree ever since its paid preview shows on Thursday netted 6.75 crores. Being a festive time, the mood among the public has helped the movie register never-seen-before collections and has marked the return of Shahrukh Khan to the box-office throne.

The official first day on August 9th netted an earth shattering 33.12 crores, beating the previous record for the highest first day net, which was by Salman Khan's 2012 Eid release Ek Tha Tiger. The second day, August 10th, achieved another record (for the highest second day collections) by netting 28.05 crores. At the end of the first 2 days, including the paid preview collections, the total net is 67.92 crores.

Now, today being a Sunday, there is every possibility of the movie breaking into the 100 crores club as collecting 32.08 crores on a holiday isn't a big ask for a mass movie such as this. If it does so, Chennai Express will become the first movie to reach the 100 crores club in just over 3 days' time.

In the overseas markets, like other SRK movies, Chennai Express is speeding at a record pace and at the end of the paid preview shows and the first day, the movie has already made more than 21 crores (3.6 million USD). Some movies can only dream of such a figure, even after their lifetime run.

SRK fans are obviously a gleeful lot and they have been expressing their happiness over their demi-god's latest success by using the hashtag #recordexpress to tweet about all the collection records that are being smashed by Chennai Express.

We will see how far this express can go. Looks like there are more milestone stations to cross.
