Where SRK soared & Ranbir, Shahid crashed
Oct 13, 2013Shahrukh Khan notched up the biggest hit in his career and also the biggest grosser in Indian cinema history, with Chennai Express a few months back. This movie was an unabashed commercial masala entertainer which was lapped up by the masses. The overall domestic net of the movie is close to 227 crores. The story is similar in overseas markets with the overseas gross crossing 120 crores. The overall worldwide gross of the movie is a whopping 420 crores plus, and this is a record by far.
In the past few weeks, the younger generation of stars such as Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor also tried their luck at similar mass commercial entertainers but the results at the box-office have been underwhelming. Shahid Kapoor's Phata Poster Nikla Hero directed by Rajkumar Santoshi has managed only around 38 crores net so far and the film has been declared a flop.
Ranbir's Besharam directed by Abhinav Kashyap has also been low-key at the box-office after a terrific Day 1 gross. So far, the film has managed to net only 55.75 crores in India and the lifetime business of the movie isn't expected to cross even 60 crores net, what with Akshay Kumar's Boss entering the fray on the 16th of October.
The genre which has worked wonders for SRK and team, has sadly resulted in the downfall of Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor.
