2012 was a watershed year for small budget indie flicks in Tamil cinema and a whole new generation of stars and directors were born. One such movie was Attakathi, directed by debutante Pa Ranjith and featuring newcomers, Dinesh and Nandita. Santhosh Narayanan emerged onto the scene as a bankable music composer and Gaana Bala was another important addition to the Tamil film music scene, thanks to Attakathi.

Post the successful reception to Attakathi after being released by Studio Green, talks were rife about director Ranjith’s next movie being with actor Karthi. The movie was apparently titled Sarpatta Paramparai and it was set to be produced by Studio Green again. But the film didn’t kick off and Karthi became busy with films such as Biriyani and All in All Azhaguraja. Director Ranjith was all along ready to commence the movie as his script work was complete.

Today, our Behindwoods Correspondent investigated about director Ranjith’s plans and came out with many interesting updates on the same. We have come to know that Ranjith’s movie with Karthi is all set to begin on the 26^th of August after Karthi completes work on Rajesh’s All in All Azhaguraja in the middle of August. It is not Sarpatta Paramparai as earlier speculated, but a new script based on the current day political scene. Expected to be technically sound, Studio Green has bankrolled the new venture too.

Nazriya Nazim and Nithya Menon were in the running to bag the lead lady’s role but now another big actress is being scouted to fill the heroine’s shoes. New faces would be the other pivotal characters in the movie.

Santhosh Narayanan has been signed on as the music composer again by Ranjith while Ramalingam takes charge of art direction. Praveen-Srikanth would be editing the film while ‘Andali Rakshasi’ fame G.Murali may be signed on as the cinematographer. Murali had won the National Award in the Non-Feature Films category at the 58^th National Awards in 2010 for the documentary Shyam Raat Seher.

This script was narrated by Ranjith to many prominent stars and when Karthi heard it, he jumped on it right away and decided to do it. The director has planned his movie in such a way that there would be no overshoots in budget.

Ranjith plans to begin work on his other script, Sarpatta Paramparai, in April 2014, by which time this film with Karthi is expected to be wrapped up. The title of this new movie is expected to be announced soon. We will keep you posted.
