‘Boys’ fame Nakul (Nagulan) returns to the big screen after his last commercial outing Kandhakottai. This film is written by Vettrimaran and directed by Prithvi Rajkumar. The music of the film is by G.V. Prakash Kumar.

College Paadam
Singers: Megha, Rahul Nambiar, Santosh
Lyrics: Annamalai

Normal ‘youth song’ with rhetorical verses as lyrics. Nothing new, except for some strange groans and moans.

Yaarivano
Singers: G.V. Prakash Kumar, Saindhavi
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

The song’s opening promises to offer a trance-y track. The song features sharp vocal overdubs over dance beats that just about manage to be racy enough to back the electronic bass loop. Traces of dubstep are also thrown in for good measure to offer some musical changes. While the song has some good melodies, it is almost buried under the action that’s packed into this 5 minute number.

Kalaaipom
Singers: Maya, Sathish, Silambarasan
Lyrics: Prithvi Rajkumar

The track attempts to be uber-cool on all levels. The track forcefully incorporates spoken word segments that ends up being unamusing . But the song could still be driven to success with the presence of Simbu at the end of the microphone.

Raja Raja
Singers: Shalmali Kholgade
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

The track seems to use bhangra instruments that sound like the Algozey, Tumbi, Tabla and Harmonium, but it isn’t as lively as the native Punjabi folk genre. There is hardly any orchestration to take note of, when the vocals are happening. Shalmali’s voice shines.

Malgove
Singers: Sonu Kakkar
Lyrics: Annamalai

What starts of as an underwhelming item song is somewhat redeemed by the male chorus, but only momentarily. Sonu Kakkar brings very little to the table with her performance.

Verdict: An unusual slip from G.V.Prakash.
