Music director Gopi Sunder is presently on a purple patch as he’s managed to make impressive inroads with his music in Malayalam films like Ustaad Hotel. He will now hope to create a similar impression on the Tamil audience with Nandanam.
Muthal Parvaiyil... Singer(s): Krish, Priya Himesh Lyrics: Viveka
The song opens with a chanting that has a middle-eastern flavor and it also doubles up as the chorus of this up-tempo track. The instrumentation rests on a bass-line that’s got an infectious yet familiar groove. The composition offers a mish-mash of all the elements required for a trendy western song that can make it to the charts. The singers Krish and Priya Himesh perform with exuberance and lift the tune amply.
Kadhal Nadhikaraiyoram... Singer(s): Gopi Sunder Lyrics: NC. Shyamalan
Music director Gopi Sunder sings this tune as it opens with a dramatic string section. The song heavily depends on the words of NC. Shyamalan who attempts at clever word play with his lyric. Gopi Sunder tries hard to build the tune up and just as the listener expects the song to go further, it comes to end, almost abruptly.
Yetho Yetho Uyirile... Singer(s): Karthik, Priya Himesh Lyrics: Viveka
Karthik and Priya Himesh shine in this tune that has some nice melodies. On the contrary the song seems to have too much going for itself that only serves as a distraction to the song’s main focus. The music director uses vocal harmonies of his talented singers to good effect.
Neeye En Snega Theeye... Singer(s): Haricharan Lyrics: Viveka
Again, another song with decent melodies sung by a highly competent singer in Haricharan. But the song’s structure has a strong familiarity to popular Tamil songs of the same fashion. The chorus for one, tries to be cool and trendy, and comes across as a blot on this otherwise pleasant tune.
Maayamaana Ulagithiley... Singer(s): Solar Sai, Gopi Sunder, NC. Shyamalan Lyrics: NC. Shyamalan
A gaana song can never go wrong with the audience and Gopi Sunder plays the card to good use. The song starts of on an inauspicious note with death bells ringing but then breaks into a classic gaana beat. The words ring gaana authenticity by talking about the illusions of life, the perils of love and the deceptiveness of women. Solar Sai is joined by music director Gopi Sunder and lyricist NC. Shyamalan, and collectively lend their voices.
Ithu Enna Valiyo... Singer(s): Chinmayi, Haricharan Lyrics: NC. Shyamalan
A melancholic tune driven by the unmistakable voice of Chinmayi brings a close to the film’s soundtrack. The track has strains of suffering which is beautifully emoted by the singer. The composition employs Indian percussions that add nice texture to the sound.
Verdict: Overall, the entire album serves for pleasant hearing with absolutely no crass elements. If anything, Gopi Sunder might be guilty for trying too hard, if that can be considered a crime at all!
