Exclusive: Thalaivaa’s producer not happy, G.V Prakash's instant response!

Jul 25, 2013

GV Prakash’s crusade against a certain music label hasn’t gone down very well with Chandraprakash Jain, the producer of Vijay’s Thalaivaa.

While speaking to the correspondent of Behindwoods.com, the producer said that it’s not right of GV Prakash to claim the royalty. He believes it should stay with the production house.

“Either the composer should only claim his salary and not the royalty or he should take the royalty and not the salary. How can he claim everything and still complain about it? Then what do we get from it? GV Prakash should consider this perspective too,” feels Chandraprakash Jain. He wants to take the issue to the Producers’ Council and is certain about getting the royalty back.

The composer had said earlier that he was doing this for the well-being of upcoming composers in particular and he had in turn received widespread support from his contemporaries.

Following the Producer's remarks on this issue, composer G.V. Prakash took time off to offer his response on his statements. Speaking to Behindwoods, G.V said "I would like to encourage the Producer to study the contract thoroughly and gain full understanding of its contents. According to the contract imposed by the label, Sony Music, the producer will not stand to earn anything."

In addition G.V raised the alarm by saying "The label has infact blocked the Producer's last payment which he should take up with the Producer's Council at once in order to retrieve what he deserves."

The composer made it very clear that he was paid a salary for his work and that his demands are not to take control of all the earnings but instead to continue the long standing tradition of composers and artists being rightfully rewarded through royalties, which he feels is being restricted by these allegedly fraudulent contracts. G.V. Prakash firmly maintained that he will not promote the idea of signing advance royalties.

Meanwhile, Thalaivaa is all geared up to be presented before the censor board and the makers are looking to release the Vijay-Amala Paul starrer in the second week of August.
