The face off between the Producers’ Council and FEFSI took a turn for the worse today with neither side willing to back down on their demands even in their slightest degree. S.A. Chandrashekhar, on behalf of the Producer’s Union has announced that they are willing to form a new union for the employess of the industry as an alternative to the rebelling FEFSI. A statement by director Cheran supporting the Producers’ stand has further intensified the tensions.
In reply to this, director Ameer, speaking on behalf of FEFSI has said that if any such move is made by the producers then all the members of FEFSI, numbering around 50000 will go on an indefinite hunger strike at Marina Beach in Chennai shortly. If anything untoward were to happen at this strike, then the full moral responsibility will fall on Cheran and the producers.
In a retaliatory statement, Cheran has said that Ameer could possibly face disciplinary action from the Director’s Association for making such moves. FEFSI was quick to respond by saying that if any action was taken against Ameer then all 50000 members were willing to engage in any form of protest.
With statements and counter attacks flying by the dozen, the situation seems to be getting worse by the day and a solution doesn’t seem to be in sight. Let’s hope that both parties sit down for an amicable dialogue and an agreeable solution. Till then, there are no lights, camera or action for Kollywood.
