The tiff between the Producers’ Council and FEFSI took a grievous turn today. Things had been looking grim for the past two days as neither side was willing to yield from its stance. Today, a very strong decision has been taken by the Producers’ Council which is likely to cripple the Tamil film industry at least temporarily. The Producers’ Council has announced that shooting of all Tamil films will be brought to a complete halt starting tomorrow. The call to halt al production works has met with a good response as more than 15 film crews that are currently in the shooting process have agreed to stop all activities immediately and return to Chennai. Only 3 producers have sought a slight extension until they complete ongoing schedules, after which they too would join the strike.

A halt in the shooting, even for a week, could throw schedules and actors’ dates into haywire and is bound to have a serious effect on the plans of many film makers. The Producers’ Council has also sent a letter to the Chief Minister requesting her to intervene in this matter. FEFSI had earlier sent a letter to the CM, explaining their side of the issue.
