Pandit Briju Maharaj, winner of the National Award for Best Choreography for his work in Vishwaroopam, spoke to Behindwoods after the results were announced. He said that Kamal Haasan had called him up immediately after the announcement had been made and congratulated him. He too in turn congratulated Kamal for delivering a fine performance that in turn played a huge role in him getting the award.

Talking to Behindwoods Pandit Birju Maharaj said that Kamal had observed him very closely, and despite being a South Indian and trained in Bharathnatyam he was able to deliver the histrionics required from a Kathak dancer.

Pandit Maharaj also said that the award was not just for him but for the entire Kathak community and as much as he was pleased he was also hopeful that Kathak would once again come in the limelight. When asked about why his associations with films were few he replied that he prefers to work with artists who are expressive and songs that have meaningful lyrics. He is currently working for a Bollywood number but has revealed that he will be more than happy to work with Kamal Haasan again and also be associated with South Indian cinema.
