INGA ENNA SOLLUDHU MOVIE REVIEW
Release Date : Jan 30,2014 Having enjoyed his share of bright seasons in the industry, director Vincent Selva offers yet another product from his stable in the name of Inga Enna Solludhu. But by the end of the film one wonders if Vincent Selva had handed over the reins entirely to VTV Ganesh who’s been credited for story, screenplay and dialogues.
VTV Ganesh’s voice in the background welcomes us with an announcement saying that this film is based on his life, admittedly with some liberal tweaks for the sake of the screen. But as the story begins to unravel, rather slowly, these snippets from Ganesh’s life play out to be far from captivating or entertaining.
The first half is as aimless as Ganesh’s character, and plays out just as a collection of scenes which find little support in the form of writing or performances. The first half also introduces us to the extended cameos from the big stars Simbu and Santhanam. Santhanam tries to balance his character between philosophy and humor but fails to make an impact with either. Simbu turns on his charm and his synergy with VTV Ganesh is the best in the entire film. Andrea, KS Ravikumar, Mayilsamy, Editor Anthony, singer Ujjaini and art director Rajeevan are the other famous names to look out for on screen.
Meera Jasmine returns to Tamil cinema with a character that lacks any elaboration. Some of the key decisions she takes aren't justified well, which leaves a gaping hole in the script. But in the second half, where her character demands a display of maturity and solidarity, Meera does a fitting job.
Even though the series of unfortunate events continue to plague Ganesh’s life in the second half, the seriousness is magnified when his married life is jeopardized by his foolhardiness. This is when the film suddenly assumes the personality of a drama.
Despite having the able hands of editor Anthony, this 2 hour film feels longer than it should while DOP Rajashekar gets creative with his camerawork wherever possible, especially with his close up shots which suit the drama. Dharan’s songs are enjoyable as a standalone entity but in the film they turn out to be excess baggage for an already sluggish screenplay.
But even in the worst situations Ganesh leads himself into, he never makes room for self-pity and that can be seen as a silver lining to his character. But in the end, what started as a Semi-Biopic soon turns into something of a tribute to his better half.
