BAAHUBALI SUFFERS IN KERALA

Baahubali releases only in 55 - 60 screens in Kerala due to the strike by Film Exhibitor's Federation headed by 'Liberty' Basheer

The grand spectacle, Baahubali is having its wide release across the globe today, July 10th. Though the promotions of the film assured the extensive availability of the film all over, the state of Kerala seems to have trouble with the same.

Global United Media (GUM), Kerala distributors of this magnum opus are suffering as the state's Film Exhibitor's Federation headed by 'Liberty' Basheer feels that the wide release of other language movies tampers the revenue of Malayalam movies. Also, such wide releases cause revenues to dip fast after the opening weekend. The Federation apparently seems to prefer limited releases in bigger theaters for other language films.

It must be noted that GUM released Shankar's I in 200 plus screens in Kerala earlier this year, and emerged out financially successful in a big way. They planned a similarly wide release for Baahubali, but due to the aforementioned reasons and also due to the theaters strike in Kerala because of the Premam piracy issue, unfortunately the film is releasing only in 55 - 60 screens in Kerala.

This definitely is a loss to movie enthusiasts and affects the accessibility of a spectacle of this range. Hope the issues get resolved and the film opens in more screens, deservingly.
