Justice N. Kirubakaran has criticized filmmakers and stars for being part of projects that have titles with anti-social connotations such as Mankatha, Pokkiri and Thirittu Payale. His comments came at a time when he passed a stay on the release of the film Madisar Mami on grounds that the title degraded the Brahmin community. The court said that the film could be released with a different title.

The film was originally titled Madisar Mami and Madana Mama, but after passing through the Censor board the makers were instructed to knock off the latter part of the title. Madisar Mami was given a U/A certification but the judge overseeing this case was disappointed with the Censor board’s inefficiency and suggested that amendments be made to the Cinematograph Act to consider the effect of modern films on the society.
