Bharat Bala’s Maryan is a heady cocktail of some of the noted names in the industry. The film, however, falls slightly short for want of a taut screenplay. Dhanush makes up for it, nevertheless.

Bharat Bala’s debut Tamil venture with Dhanush in the lead has some international names associated with it – Marc Koninckx for cinematography and Rahman for music. A gripping story of a migrant laborer in Sudan, Maryan was also released in the Auro 3D format.

After a good-opening week, Maryan has had reduced shows to accommodate new releases. However, attendance still seems to be good in multiplexes.

It is learnt that the movie has had a phenomenal opening in the US.

An enviable combination of accomplished names made Maryan one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Dhanush plays a fisherman who gets entangled in a hostage drama in Sudan. Parvathi Menon plays the female lead.

Thanks to the pre-release buzz, Maryan opened to good attendance on its release day. What with good reviews, the run is expected to go on for some time.
