Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham (VPA) – a good craftsman will be able to get things done with whatever tool available. Director Srinath, however, has made use of Santhanam - a very powerful tool, in order to can this humour packed movie. The film has been jointly produced by Handmade Films, which is Santhanam’s home banner and PVP cinema and is distributed into theaters by Studio Green.

VPA is based on how a young man deliberately traps himself in a house, in a desperate attempt to save his head from a family whose traditional policy forces them to cling on to extremes when it comes to hospitality and revenge.

Santhanam, beyond doubt is the heart and soul of the movie and his out of the box trademark comic ‘kalaais’ are at its best in the film. Ashna Zaveri, who plays the female lead in the movie, has blended well with her character and her pretty screen presence is soothing to the eye.

Santhanam in VPA shows aspirations of a mass hero and when his performance is served with a proper blend of comedy, the excitement obviously doubles. The train sequence that features Siddharth Vipin and team can be considered as one of the best sequences in the movie as Santhanam activates his comedy engine and pushes down the accelerator to take it to maximum speed. Santhanam’s differentiation of how men and women think by identifying who their favourite actor has been is an interesting dialogue in the sequence.

The movie has a couple of interesting surprises in the form of Siddharth Vipin’s gang leader and Santhanam’s bicycle that add to the entertaining elements of the film.

Siddharth Vipin’s music gives the movie a convincing commercial lift, especially the background scores, which include tiny vocals like “maatikittaan” that enhance the reach of the certain comedy scenes. Santhanam happens to have been undergoing rigorous dance practice sessions as his performance in that department has improved a great deal.

Director Srinath has made every possible attempt to remain unpredictable, however falls prey to the restrictions of a commercial masala, which can be neglected as there appears to have been no compromise in the level of entertainment.

Although the songs are neat compositions by Siddharth Vipin, they seem to have fallen on a different track when it comes to their placement in the film. The writing is also not foolproof as lot of liberties seem to have been taken in the name of making a comedy entertainer. If you overlook these tiny dissatisfactions in the film, VPA is a timepass vehicle driven by Santhanam.
Verdict: Santhanam’s Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham is timepass.
