SUMMA NACHUNU IRUKKU SONGS REVIEW
Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
Album Release Date : Apr 24,2013
Director A. Venkatesh delivers Summa Nachunnu Irukku featuring Thaman, who was last seen in Sattam Oru Iruttarai, and two heroines Vibha Natarajan and Archana. Power Star and Thambi Ramaiah play important roles. Dialogues are penned by Erode Mahesh and he too has a role in the film. Music is by Achu.
The album opens on a ‘powerful’ note as it’s a tune catering to Power Star Sreenivasan’s image. Lyrics by Vimala Britto attempt to give him a mass build up. Achu revs up the tune with a relentless kuthu beat and it’s boosted by the presence of power chords. Naveen Madhav and Sree Chitra deliver a performance with an almost straight face despite the song’s infantile intentions.
Achu renders a soft romantic tune, which is what his fans would be expecting after Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakkathilaey. The young composer strings together an earnest vocal melody and some intricate instrumentation that’s dominated by guitar note picking. The accordion outro captures the mood perfectly and ends the song on a high.
The track features a few bright moments like the melodic hook on the string instrument and the alter-egos of the percussion arrangement. But despite the promising orchestration the song is overpowered by the half-baked lyrics, which is a good idea on paper but could have been pieced together in a less forceful manner. T.Rajendar’s singing is always enjoyable and he shows his adeptness in the restrained and sped-up portions.
An up-tempo electronic tune featuring Suchitra’s voice, that’s layered and processed, giving it a more wholesome effect. While the tune travels along predictable lines, it does spring up a surprise when the beat is dropped down to dubstep mode, but only briefly.
A full-on and unabashed kuthu song that seems to have all the requirements in place such as a catchy chorus, pounding percussions, lyrical innuendos and the voices of Velmurugan and Srilekha Parthasarathy to top it all. The beat may be on familiar grounds but Achu tries to bring out a different sound on the percussions and laces it with some lively orchestration.
