Saahasam is an upcoming entertainer starring yesteryear hero Prashanth in lead role. Music for this film is composed by high voltage S.S.Thaman.

Angry Bird Penne
Singers: Mohit Chauhan
Lyrics: Na Muthukumar

The album begins on a moody note with the earthly vocals of Mohit Chauhan in the midst of trance like base and refreshing ambience. The track is single handedly excelled by Mohit’s lovely voice and funky lyrics. The interludes are stylishly laced with magical potpourri of flute, strings and electric violin.

Desi Girl
Singers: Lakshmi Menon, STR
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

A peppy track gets a room next with signature Thaman’s beats and metallic vocals of Lakshmi Menon. The track stays true to the item song template with racy rhythms, electric guitars and funky harmonium usage. However, there are not changeover points or surprises which are mandatory for a fun filled song of this sort.

Madhu
Singers: Anirudh Ravichander
Lyrics: Na Muthukumar

It is time for a funny solo track high on American country flavor but tossed effectively with Anirudh’s sultry vocals. The track has an unpretentious casual aura associated with it thanks to the fantastic usage of guitars and impressive bass work. Watch out for a hilarious usage of base vocals which tickles the funny bone. Surprisingly, the interludes have a wonderful Hindustani flavor blended with carnatic Jazz!

Oh Madhu (Reprise)
Singers: Vijay Prakash
Lyrics: Na Muthukumar

The star track of the album arrives once again with additional Reggae flavor and soothing vocals of Vijay Prakash. However, there is not much experimentation as expected for a reprise track with ample scope. Expect for the Reggae base vocals, the entire orchestration is almost similar to the original.

Pudikkum
Singers: Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Kabilan

An impressive folk fusion number has a mesmerizing base of carnatic mandolin in the base. Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal make the track even more enjoyable with their frivolous singing which is greatly fun filled. The composition has the classical touch of Carnatic Raaga Harikambhoji but presented with modern aura. The recurring mandolin literally becomes the undisputed hero of the composition for its individuality!

Sayang Ku
Singers: MM Mansi, SS Thaman
Lyrics: Na Muthukumar

After an enjoyable ride, we get to hear another peppy number which is a rehash of Thaman’s Telugu hit song Nautanki from Ravi Teja’s Power. Compared to the original, there are some additional electric guitar riffs and more thump in the rhythm section.  As an afterthought, the track is all set to big records in Tamil Cinema now.

Verdict: A funky, high voltage album from Thaman.
