Paayum Puli

Singer: Hariharasudan
Lyrics: Yugabharathi

A quirky number to start with. The song is high on energy levels with local drums, nadhaswaram and folk flavours. Hariharasudan’s sultry voice is quite impressive for this song which strikes the fun chord with ease. The interludes retain the fun element with good mastery over the rhythm and string section.

Onna Paathen Raasathi

Singers
: D.Imman, Vandana Srinivasan
Lyrics: Yugabharathi

A nostalgic duet with folk essence and the goodness of grand piano arrives next. Imman does a good job with his melodious vocals and Vandana’s quirky tone perfectly balances his voice. The foot tapping rhythm and guitar strums blend pretty well.  The composer keeps it simple yet effective in terms of breathtaking presentation.

Payya Payya

Singers: V.V.Prasanna, Vandana Srinivasan
Lyrics: Yugabharathi

The folk wholesomeness is retained with another lazy duet which is aptly supported by ghatam touches. Prasanna does a commendable job with his mellifluous vocals and the quirkiness of the nadaswaram is faintly heard in the first interlude. The song makes an ideal night time listen for its laid back nature and slightly over the edge chord progression.

Oththa Ruva Pottu Vechu

Singer: Prabhu
Lyrics: Yugabharathi

An eerie number with shades of the renowned Durga Stotram Ayigiri Nandini arrives next in the vocals of Prabhu. The high voltage rhythm is quite indigenous and the song carries a kind of fast-paced gloom and sadness throughout. It also has a philosophical touch and conversational tone associated with it. However, the composer makes sure that the energy level doesn't drop.

Lifea Fightu Da

Singer: Nataraj Subramaniam
Lyrics: Yugabharathi

The finale is quite on the contrary with a stylish number which speaks on the philosophy of life in funky terms. The symphony is fused effectively with local flavours and feisty trumpets. The song has a Santhosh Narayanan style approach to it but retains its unique sounding.  The tense strings are greatly complemented with trance like beats which slowly build up.

Verdict: Engitta Modhathey is a fair album which has its share of melodies and fast paced numbers.
