This
is a movie that we think will be a reference for students
of film making for years to come. We are not sure
whether Selvaraghavan and his crew used a storyboard
to visualize each frame of the movie; it certainly
looked like they did. Each frame carried the turbulent
mood of the film. The shades and lights that were
used, especially the light blue hue in certain scenes
was of international standards. The theme was dark
and the movie looked as if it was shot entirely in
the dark, try recollecting any scene in the movie
with bright lights. Pudhuppettai gave new definitions
to the term ‘feel of the movie’ in Tamil
cinema. The audiences were not yet ready to accept
such a turbulent and dark movie, consequently the
movie was not a big hit. The slowness of the second
half didn’t help either. But, Pudhuppettai did
manage to hand out a few lessons in film making that
are sure to be used in the years to come.
