Six
months back if someone had gone around telling that
a movie with a deaf and dumb heroine, no heroism,
a little romance and a sprinkling of comedy would
run for 100 days at major centers, he would have been
scoffed at. Mozhi has come along and proved all the
conventional wisdom of commercial cinema to be just
a myth. It is a path breaker in Tamil cinema in its
own right - just for showing that cinema can be made
out of subtle emotions (not sentiments) with very
few strong dialogues. In fact, one can easily count
the number of times the characters raise their voices.
But Mozhi’s greatest contribution to Tamil cinema
is that it will now make producers think twice before
rejecting a subject that is not the usual commercial
fare.
