The
movie that put Tamil cinema on the world map. The
first motion picture to get a screening at the mother
of all film festivals - Cannes. The supreme ease with
which the director takes the movie forward surprised
many. The top notch performance of all the actors,
none of whom were big names helped a lot. Backed by
a visionary producer in Shankar, Veyil proved that
the Tamil audiences are matured enough to accept movies
based on good story and presentation. Music by debutant
G.V.Prakash, was also much appreciated. Though many
a cinematic liberty was taken by the director, critics
and paying public lapped up the offbeat attempt alike.
Veyil is sure to encourage other directors to come
up with such natural, offbeat movies.
