Apr 21, 2015
May 1st is celebrated as Workers' Day, and interestingly this day has also seen many movie releases over the years. This year, one of the most awaited releases on May 1st is Uttama Villain starring Kamal Haasan. This film has raised expectation with its flabbergasting music by Ghibran and visually appealing trailers and teasers. Another film that is releasing on May 1st this year is Aishwarya Dhanush's Vai Raja Vai starring Gautham Karthik and Priya Anand. This is supposedly a fun flick and has its own audience expecting the film.

Looking back, films like Nee Enge En Anbe starring Nayanthara, Vaibhav and Pasupathy in the lead roles and Dhavani Kaatru starring Aaradhya, Murali and Ravikumar were released on May 1, 2014.

For May 1, 2013, we had some quality fare competing with one another. Ethir Neechal starring Sivakarthikeyan and Priya Anand saw a grand opening and went on to become a Hit, Nalan Kumarasamy's Soodhu Kavvum starring Vijay Sethupathi, Sanchita Shetty, Bobby Simha and Ashok Selvan built up gradual momentum and went on to become a superhit. Also, Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal directed by Vasanth was recognized for its great music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Intriguingly, between 2010 and 2012, there were no films released on May 1st. May 1, 2009 saw an experimental film by Thai Muthuselvam titled Newtonin Moondram Vidhi starring S. J. Suryah, Sayali Bhagat and Rajiv Krishna in the lead roles. This film was critically acclaimed and was renowned for S J Suryah's performance.
