Director Vijay defends Thalaivaa
Aug 28, 2013Prior to the release of Thalaivaa, the movie was mired in lot of release issues and one such roadblock was a petition filed by one Mr.S.R.K. Karnan of Seethapararpanallur village, in Tirunelveli district. Court notices were sent to the producer S. Chandraprakash Jain, S. Madan of Vendhar Movies, Director A.L. Vijay, and Gemini Colour Lab, Chennai, recently and the hearing happened in an assistant civil court in Chennai yesterday.
Karnan believed that the story of Thalaivaa was based on the life of his father S.K.Ramasamy and grandfather S.S.Kandasamy Sait who lived in the Dharavi area of Mumbai during the 80s. He filed a case as he thought that the film defamed his family members and depicted them as indulging in anti-social activities.
Director Vijay, in his counter affidavit, stated that the film was purely based on fiction with Australia and Mumbai being the scenes of action. He was firm in his belief that the life of Karnan's father and grandfather was different from that of the characters that he has portrayed in the film.
Vijay appealed to the court to dismiss this petition.
