Kamal Haasan's first reaction to Dr.J.Jayalalitha's statements

Jan 31, 2013

Kamal Haasan in interviews to various national televisions has thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dr.J.Jayalalitha for meeting the press, clarifying her stand and setting up a channel to resolve the problem the movie Vishwaroopam has run into. Earlier, Tamil Nadu government had banned Vishwaroopam from being released in the state, in the wake of 24 Muslim organisations threatening to protest, if the movie which they believed had content against their sentiments, was released.

The actor categorically denied any animosity with the Chief Minister. “I even met her on my birthday recently. There are no ill feelings between us at all”, he added. Kamal believes that the problem will now be soon resolved. He also mentioned that he was used to taking calculated risks in making movies, but he didn't expect such a protest. Kamal Haasan stated that he was very confident that the Muslim leaders who attended the special screening would not have any issues after watching the movie and was surprised by the turn of events. “Tamil Nadu never had communal riots of large scale. I was surprised by the reactions”, said the Southern Superstar. He quipped, “Why would one make a movie against Islam to be released in countries like India, Malaysia and Dubai which have huge Muslim population. It doesn't make basic common business sense”. On his controversial statement of leaving the country, he re-emphasized that he would definitely do so, if he was to go through such an experience again - “I would leave the country and still make movies for India, because I love the country so much”.

Kamal Haasan also stated that he will be more wiser now, but will not stop from taking up sensitive subjects in his movies in the future. The actor was truly emotional when he said that he was touched by various Muslim brothers who had come to his office in Chennai and prayed for his success. He thanked all his fans and friends from the fraternity for supporting him through these tough times.
