Law being revisited following Vishwaroopam controversy
Jan 31, 2013 The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is likely to set up a new committee to revisit the Cinematographic Act soon. The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Manish Tewari on his social networking page hinted that the Cinematographic Act might be reworked to avoid State’s intervention after films certification, in the future.
To quote him, “It’s time the Cinematographic Act is revisited to ensure implementation integrity certification decisions. Otherwise each state would be its own censor.”
Meanwhile, Leela Samson, the Chairperson of the Censor Board has expressed shock over the Tamil Nadu Advocate General’s statement that the board is a purchasable commodity and that the certificate issued for Vishwaroopam wasn’t valid. She has also warned the Advocate General that she might sue him for making such unwarranted statements.
