Director Balaji Shaktivel’s stories and subjects seem to have a universal appeal and are not tied down by regional factors. Case in point being the highly successful ‘Kadhal’ that was remade in Kannada as ‘Cheluvina Chittara’ and in Bengali as ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amar’. Both remakes went on to become equally successful in their respective industries and eventually opened the doors to new stars in the making.
Next on that list will be the critically lauded ‘Vazhakku Enn 18/9’ which will be remade in Kannada as ‘Case No. 18/9’. The makers have acquired the rights to the remake and it will be directed by Mahesh Rao who last delivered ‘Murali Meets Meera’. The remake will feature a cast of established and fresh faces, the director reveals. Niranjan of ‘Jolly Days’ and Sindhu Lokanath who was seen in a few Tamil films like ‘Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal’ and ‘Vaada Poda Nanbargal’ have been finalized as part of the cast and they will be scouting for theatre artists to play the supporting roles.
