The director of Vijay’s Diwali bonanza, Raja, hosted a press conference today and shared his thoughts and expectations about Velayudham. He said that he had done every possible thing within the scope of a 40 crore budget and the presence of a mass hero. He expressed confidence that in spite of many other big films like 7 Aum Arivu and Ra One releasing alongside, his product will definitely find a special place of its own in the audiences’ mind.
He said that he had wanted for long to break away from the ‘remake’ image that had been built around him. He added that people used to recognize him as a ‘dubbing specialist’. But this time, he had gone in just for a one line adaptation of a Telugu superhit and built an original script around it. That would definitely show in the way the film has shaped up.
He also said that after having completed and released six films to date, the biggest satisfaction was that his films had always managed to earn a decent profit for the producers. He was confident that his seventh film Velayudham too would continue his winning streak.
Jayam Raja was very appreciative of Vijay’s performance in the film and said that the fans would surely love his dance, action performances and dialogue delivery. He also agreed that there were initially doubts about how Hansika Motwani would be able to pull off a village girl’s role. But, he said that the end result has belied all expectations and the audience would be surprised with Hansika’s performance.
When asked about his future plans, the director said that he had not finalized anything at the moment. Upon being asked whether he would work with Ajith in the near future he said that he had never got a chance to personally speak to Ajith or narrate a story to him but he would definitely work with him if the right opportunity comes by.
