Vilasrao Deshmukh, the Union Minister for Science and Technology and father-in-law of Genelia D’Souza, was brought to Chennai yesterday following prolonged illness. He was diagnosed with multiple organ failures. He has been put on life-support devices.
His ailment was diagnosed in Mumbai, a year ago. Since then his family has been considering the option of organ transplantation. Last week he was admitted in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai, following ill health. The doctors found that he was suffering from cirrhosis of liver and non-functional kidneys.
Son Ritesh Deshmukh on Monday shifted him to Global Hospitals, Chennai through an air-ambulance. Ritesh said that they are planning for a liver transplant after his father’s vital parameters stabilize. The doctors said that since he is on a ventilator, they will have to evaluate him to see if he is fit enough to undergo a transplant.
