ORU VADAKKAN SELFIE MOVIE REVIEW

Okay, the verdict first - ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ (OVS) is a charming fun movie which you will love to see in theatres with your family. As simple as that !

When a movie has some great acting talents as its cast, it is an experience on its own for the viewers. Nivin Pauly, seriously is some talent when it comes to humour. His biggest strength is that he is a complete natural. His chemistry with Aju Varghese was well received in ‘Thattathin Marayathu’. But here they seem even more at ease with each other. 

 

Aju Varghese, with his unique voice, antics and the ‘kola mass’ liners is a riot. Manjima Mohan as a deglamorized girl in despair is definitely one to look out for in the future.  

 

Vineeth Sreenivasan, one of the finds of next generation Malayalam Cinema has quite a prominent lead role in the movie. Watch out for his confrontation scenes with Nivin Pauly. But it is his writing which stands out the most in ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’. Touching upon a very relevant social issue and presenting it with humour convincingly, is always a challenge. Vineeth does this in style. 

 

Shaan Rahman’s music makes a lot of the scenes even more funnier. He has shied away from using the usual music templates of comedy movies, which has worked well in favour of OVS. His songs too, quite nicely flow with the narration. Camera by Jomon T John is as pleasant as it should get for a humorous movie. Edits are also kept pretty simple and straightforward. And finally, Prajith, the director takes all the credit for effortlessly extracting the best from his cast & crew. 

 

As for the negatives, the first half does take time to settle down and arrive at the main knot. But the second half more than makes it up.
