COUSINS MOVIE REVIEW
Release Date : Dec 19,2014Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
Cousins is definitely a movie that has four cousins in it, however the story and the title share a very distant relationship. Directed by Vysakh, the script revolves around Sam, Joji, Pauly, Tony, Mallika and Arathi, played by Kunchako Boban, Indrajith, Suraj, Joju George, Nisha Aggarwal and Vedhika respectively.
The movie starts off slowly instilling a suspense element right at the beginning and gradually picks up pace to take us through scenes that might lack clarity in the beginning. However, the writer, Sethu attempts to wipe off some of the obscurity towards the end of the movie.
The entire film appears to have had the intention to bring out a lot of laughs in the beginning and slowly delve into the depth of the script as the suspense unveils. But, the movie unfortunately fails to deliver its intent, as a result of some poor writing, causing many restless moments.
Although Suraj Venjaramoodu manages to bring out a few comical moments at rare intervals, a few unnecessary sequences like the bath in the river followed by the fashion show and some stereotypical characterizations like that of Joju’s affinity to food and Kalabhavan Shajon’s comical
rowdiness result in poor levels of engagement.
The background music in the film does not blend with the scenes, especially in first few sequences and one might have felt that the scenes would have had better impact had there been no BGM at all in some places.
On what worked in the film - the visuals need to be given a special mention as the location in and around the palace were rich in colour and depth. The lead actors have played their roles to exactly what was required in the script. Vedhika and Nisha Aggarwal look extremely beautiful in their ethnic attires, contributing immensely to the visual satiation.
Miya’s ‘friendly’ appearance and the string of scenes around her were interesting; especially the portions were Kunchako and his cousins appear in school uniforms.
Produced by Vaishakh Rajan under the banner Vaishakha Cynyma, Cousins impresses with visuals, but fails to gratify due to some poor writing.
