PREMAM TELUGU MOVIE REVIEW CLICK TO RATE THE MOVIE

Gutsy is the word that comes to mind when you think of young director Chandoo Mondeti, someone who is just one film old. After tasting success with his first film, the last thing that you expect him to do is to remake a recent cult classic love film which is pretty famous among Telugu speaking crowd as well.

Taking up a pan-Indian craze flick like Premam for a remake, that too within a year and half from its release and replacing Nivin Pauly and the much loved Sai Pallavi (Malar teacher) with Naga Chaitanya and Shruti Haasan is a courageous decision knowing they will not be spared by online trollers.

We are not going to talk too much about the script as it’s pretty much known to most of us. But for the minority who missed to catch up the original version, Premam is a coming of age romantic film that covers three love episodes of a young man’s life.

Let’s break the ice here. Please don’t expect this remake to surpass the original. That’s a cult film and cannot be taken in contention but if you’re going to put off all the comparisons to rest then you might be in for a decent treat.

However, it's not a frame to frame remake of the original. It looks like Chandoo has seriously worked to make the script suitable for the local audience. Most of the dialogues have been changed and the screenplay too has been altered a bit. They have also made some changes to the basic character sketch of the leads. Shruti who reprises Sai Pallavi's role gets to be stiff and a subtle teacher. Madonna Sabastian and Anupama Parameswaran repeat their respective roles.

Beyond a point, you might start comparing this film with the original and that is where this remake scores. There is something fresh about it and you will take away something even if you had watched the Malayalam version. The Madonna love segment has been tweaked a little and has also been treated completely different but did they need to do that? We will leave that for you to decide. But that portion drags and could have been trimmed. Apart from a couple of songs, all the others have been retained.

You might not find a poetic visual narration or massy goosebumps moments in this version but if you want to witness a simple feel good romantic film again, Premam is not a bad option after all.
