MAJNU MOVIE REVIEW
Uyyala Jampala fame Virinchi Varma teams up with Nani for a romantic feel good love story. Nani is in a dream spell with all his recent films turning out to be successful. Will he keep the winning streak intact with Majnu too?
Nani exhibits maturity in emotional scenes, shares great chemistry with both the lead ladies and breezes through the role. He is a great comedic element in the first half with his usual fun and prank antics while he gets to wear more serious makeover in the second half which again, he plays it to the gallery.
We have talked enough about Majnu, but what about Laila? Actually, we have two of them here. It’s one of those triangular love stories. Anu Emmanuel and Priya Shri play the female protagonists and both of them look lovely. Anu has a more extensive part to play. While we keep admiring her beauty, we also feel why the director did not extract more work from her?
The first half is fun and pretty engaging. It had a good mix of romance and satire. Vennela Kishore, Saptagiri and Posani Krishna Murali contribute well to the movie’s comedy. Though very predictable, the interval block is interesting and well-timed too. After this, the film resorts to a very clichéd narrative pattern and you almost know what is going to happen next. The second half stretches too far and it is even harder to watch since it follows a usual triangular love story pattern. A fresh screenplay could have made the end product look taut.
Majnu accommodates more than enough number of songs, though all of them are feel good and soothing. A couple of them could have been avoided. But one should admit that they are all picturized so beautifully. Background scores complement the emotions and moods of the sequences. True to his reputation, Gopi Sundar has entwined a musical fairy tale.
Cinematographer Gunasekhar has portrayed the right kind of mood for this rom-com. He has added class and finesse to the frames through his work. All the set works look slick, but they could have concentrated more on the railway station set where the action sequence takes place.
Though the storyline and screenplay look as old as the age of Majnun (The real one), Nani makes your time worthwhile.
