KUMARI 21F MOVIE REVIEW

How important is trust in a love relationship? Kumari 21F is about a young couple madly in love with each other and how their relationship gets into a tangle because of an impediment called trust.

Kumari 21F starts off as a feel good romantic film, shifts gears slowly and gets very intense towards the end. The film travels with mainly 5 characters - the leads Siddhu (Raj Tarun) and Kumari (Heebah Patel) and the three friends of Siddhu.

Siddhu is an aspiring chef who wants to fly abroad for work while Kumari is a model. Siddhu is from a humble background and very possessive, while Kumari is modern, bold, dynamic with progressive thoughts. How their relationship leads to a series of twists and turns and what happens to their cute love, is what Kumari 21F is all about.

The main charm for this film comes from the gorgeous looking lead actress, Heebah Patel. Some of you might have seen her before in the Tamil film Thirumanam Enum Nikkah, where she played a small but pivotal role. Here, she looks completely different from her previous roles. Her character is like a puzzle that you would want to explore. Yeah, that is a common trait with a lot of other women but the only difference here is that she is shown very poetically and not even for a fraction of a second, you will hate her. She looks so adorable and her acting skills aren’t bad either. Heebah is the backbone of the film.

Raj Tarun, the lead hero, plays the confused young man. His character is a little perplexing. Is he actually good or bad? The heroine claims him to be good but on the other side he is someone who hangs out with 3 notorious friends of his, who do all sorts of illegal activities. One feels that the importance which was given to the female lead wasn’t given to Siddhu. Probably it was something that was purposely done to give more weightage to the heroine.

Kumari 21F has the technical support of Devi Sri Prasad and Randy (Rathnavelu). While the former delivers a breezy OST, tailormade for a feel-good romantic film, Randy’s camera work adds the gloss and richness to the screen.

How can we not mention about Sukumar? This film wouldn’t have materialized if not for Sukumar. He handles the story and screenplay this time and leaves the direction department to Palnati Surya Pratap. Sukumar must be credited for having given us a memorable character that would be talked about for years. You don’t find such bold female characters in Telugu cinema often. However one must say that the story looks to be inspired from a well-known French film, Lila dit ça.
