YATCHAN MOVIE REVIEW
Release Date : Sep 11,2015Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
In case of double hero action films, it would generally be a case of both the heroes going against the baddies or a battle of wits between the two leads. Thankfully, Yatchan does not fall under either of these categories. It is not one of those action rivalry saga between two stalwarts or a ‘Pattiyal’ type of film either, though its treatment could make us relate to Vishnuvardhan’s earlier films.
The film starts a little slow but picks up pace once the characters get settled. One thing that certainly works in favor of Yatchan is the unpredictability. It’s a cultivated mix of suspense and comedy. At places where heavy suspense and tension prevail, the director fools you with a grimly funny humor which might please you but it does dilute the intensity too.
Yatchan is probably the best thing that has happened to Krishna with regard to his film career. Vishnu, has sewn a tailor made role for his brother knowing his pros and cons. Not just Krishna, the film gives immense scope for all the actors to perform. It is not one of those films that revolve around a single individual; there are three to four stories traveling equidistantly.
Both Swathi Reddy and Deepa Sannadhi do have a decisive role to play, while the former scores high with usual mannerisms, the latter had to underplay herself to suit the role. Thambi Ramaiah as usual makes a sizable impact, having performed similar characters in the past. Roles like these have become a cakewalk for the National Award winner. RJ Balaji and Yogi Babu in their funny cameos get couple of rounds of applause.
Vishnuvardhan is one director who constantly tries to bring the best out of Arya, from a ruggedly handsome mobster in Arinthum Ariyamalum to a stylish looking hacker in Aarambam, not to forget his fat cameo avatar too in the same film. Even in Yatchan it is good to see that Arya and Vishnu share a very good chemistry.
Though on paper it sounds like a very good move to bring in a critically acclaimed actor like Adil Hussain to play a pivotal role in the film, his lip sync issues seem to be a matter of concern which grabs away the earnestness from his character.
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s tunes are fresh, peppy and enjoyable. It’s easily hummable and very likely to linger in your memory for a while. Though all tracks are as short as a half taken breath, it’s placement is questionable.
Subha’s dialogue is a plus to the film. Likewise Sreekar Prasad’s editing makes you feel that the film doesn’t have a sappy moment at all. Om Prakash’s work is not just restricted with angles here, he has given a different color tone for Arya and Vishnu and still makes it look consistent.
Yatchan is not a film that might put a smile on your face when you leave the cinema hall but at the same time it is not a film that would make you regret either. Certainly it has some highpoints. It would have been great if it was consistently entertaining and edgy.
