Kaathirundhai Anbe
Singers: Abhay Jodhpurkar, Chinmayi, Nivas
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Lot of melodies to choose from in the opening track. Abhay Jodhpurkar fits into the scheme of things rather well and Chinmayi is delightful as always. The first impression of the new composer on the block, Prem, is a good one.
Saturday Fever
Singers: Sayanora Philip, UV Rap, Vijay Prakash
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

The opening passage kind of sets you up for an adventurous modern jazz track but upon unfolding itself the song turns out to be anything but. Lyrically and treatment wise the song contains the usual club song ingredients. Sayanora and Vijay Prakash sing with much gusto but the tune finds itself short on novelty or appeal.

Vaazhkai Oru
Singers: Gaana Bala
Lyrics: Gaana Bala

So the question is what is Gana Bala going to do different here, and the answer comes in the form of a sound that you wouldn’t normally associate with the popular gaana singer. Essentially the track is very much a gaana song but a fusion of local drums and electronic effects gives it a certain edge as Bala flexes his vocal chords impressively yet again and expanding his catalogue of experimental gaana.

Nenjankuzhi
Singers: Karthik, Pooja Vaidyanath
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

Quite a Rahaman-esque melody in the way the track is constructed -like the raining down of glorious strings and the memorable chorus segment which tops things off. Karthik seems like the obvious choice for a track like this and he owns the tune completely. The bluesy interlude is stylistically done and leaves you wanting more of the same.

Nenjankuzhi (Version 2)
Singers: Karthik, Pooja Vaidyanath
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

An alternate version of the melody without any real orchestration overhaul except some vocal rearrangements and doing away with the outro.

Nenjankuzhi (Instrumental)
Singers: Instrumental
Lyrics:

An instrumental version now of the tune with a flautist driving the tune. The melody is good no doubt and the instrumental solo is great but the excess flute does border around sweetness overload but it’s still very much listenable. But listening to different versions of the same tune back-to-back-to-back could work against it for a few.

Verdict: A confident debut by the composer Prem Kumar with a couple of sweet melodies. Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham is an album which should be tried.
