This is perhaps the only occasion when Dr. Kamal Haasan has shared screen space for a considerable time with one of Tamil cinema’s new generation of stars. Nalla Sivam will be remembered as one of the special Kamal Haasan performances of all time and Anbarasu (Madhavan’s character) will always remain a cherished one for the actor who has done quite a few strong roles in Tamil and Hindi. The understanding that they shared came to fore in the lighter scenes and in the ones where Arasu tries to outsmart Sivam but ends up being saved by him.
