Nesan, director of Vijay’s next film, Jilla, got the chance to direct the star thanks to a really interesting series of incidents which happened after the completion of Velayudham’s shoot. Vijay generally makes it a point to give some goodies to the technicians and other assistants who worked with him, on the last day of shooting of all his films.

There were 7 budding aspirants who assisted director Jayam Raja during Velayudham and all of them were really curious about what they would get from the Ilayathalapathy. Vijay gave all the 7 of them an opportunity to narrate their best script / one-liner to him. He also promised that if he liked what he heard, he would immediately give his call-sheet for that film, thereby launching these assistants in the best manner possible.

Vijay spent about a week listening to all their stories and script narrations and finally took a call. He happened to really like what he heard from Nesan and hence Jilla happened.
