The center has imposed 12.3% service tax on film artistes who earn more than Rs 10 lakhs per annum. The Tamil film industry went on a fast today to voice their opinions against the centre’s decision. The fast began at 9 AM and many top personalities from the industry like Rajinikanth, Vijay, Suriya, Sarath Kumar, Karthi, Radha Ravi, Radhika, Parthiban, Vivekh, S.A.Chandrasekar, K.S.Ravikumar, S.P.Jananathan & Thanu participated in the fast.

While speaking at the fast Rajinikanth said that imposing more taxes would result only in the growth of black money. “This will reduce the government's income,” added the Superstar. He also requested the government to cancel the new service tax plan. Rajini arrived at around 10 45 AM and stayed for around an hour. 

Radha Ravi pointed out that the decision to exempt writers, lyricists and music composers from service tax, would only result in bringing disparities and divide in the film industry, which is a big family.
