The first single from Dhanush’s upcoming film Naiyaandi made an appearance on the radio early this morning and the track has left people smiling and scratching their heads over what they had just heard. The song ‘Teddy Bear’ is almost entirely based on 8-bit video game music sounds and those familiar with Super Mario will be able to identify a few grooves here and there. As soon as the track goes in to arcade universe there’s no turning back.

Ghibran puts Dhanush the singer to the test with a set of cutesy words that can be a mouthful, and the actor-singer steps up his game to the task. But the listener’s attention inevitably switches back to the sounds in background which are replete with gaming sounds and effects. Maybe Ghibran took the director’s briefing for a playful tune far too literally? The theme is fun, the execution is highly unique and equally indulgent.
