Mani Ratnam has filed a defamation case against distributor Mannan for making false allegations on the director. Mannan had earlier filed a complaint with the Commissioner of Police against Mani Ratnam for Kadal’s distribution loss. It is also reported that the distributor had made unnecessary remarks about the ace director, there by damaging Mani Ratnam’s reputation.

Hence, the director has filed a defamation case against Mannan, and has reportedly demanded Rs 5 crores as compensation. High court has also issued an order to Mannan, restraining him from entering Maniratnam’s office or residence.

Mani Ratnam had also sold the film to a different company during the first schedule of Kadal. Therefore, Mani Ratnam or his company cannot be held responsible for the losses incurred by the distributors, says the director’s Lawyer, Abudu Kumar.
