'OH PODU' TO THE 'CHENNAI PONNU'
Dear viewers,
I have fond and evergreen memories of the film Aasai…when my husband and I met Ajith on the sets for the 1st time…such a ‘chamaththu’ courteous boy who greeted us with a charming charismatic smile!
And to what heights he has reached now, extremely proud of him. He stands tall in adhering to the maxim ‘No pain no gain’.
This week’s ‘rekhs underscore’ spins around 3 famous personalities of Thamizh cinema who have signed their style with deep impact, each in their own right and might.
1st and unparalleled of course is THE director I am most fond of, who made me love Thamizh cinema as a teenager, K.Balachander sir, recent recipient of the prestigious DadasahebPhalke award.
2nd is Unni Krishnan, a national award winner for his 1stfilm song ‘ennavalaeadiennavalae’ from the film ‘Kadhalan’
3rd is AnuradhaSriram who has imprinted her unique stamp into film music and this is her 25th year as a musician in our film industry. She definitely deserves an ‘ Oh podu’ for this talented track record!
If you are wondering why I chose these 3 people in particular, it’s because this trio share a birthday, today! And when I racked my brain for a duet by Unni and Anu what immediately flowed into my mind is this beautiful number by music director Deva. This song holds greener memories as the DoP of this film is Jeeva, my talented dear friend. Vasanth having learnt the art of film making from KB sir, was the common link, hence Aasai it is.

I’d like to dedicate this week’s ‘rekhs underscore’ to a strong girl who continues to inspire me with her forthrightness, perseverance, passion for singing, one who is so blessed by Goddess Saraswathi, Anu. Her husband Sriram has been her ‘Rock of Gibraltar’ and what I admire most about Anu is that success has not changed her one bit. She is the right person for all celebs who have their heads floating on cloud # 09 to learn a lesson or two from!
Let’s walk down memory lane admiring a young Ajith…wishing KB sir, Unni Krishnan and AnuradhaSriram a glorious year, good health and all good things showering on them.
Until my next, let me sign off with Santhanam’s style of alliteration-dialog, ‘Let July load you with jubilance of the jolliest kind’
