Gopichand who is known for his clean and fun-filled family entertainers, is back with yet another film on similar grounds, Sowkhyam. He teams up with AS Ravikumar  Chowdary; the duo shares a successful film Yagnam which released in 2004. Yagnam was an important film in Gopichand’s career as it was his first hit film as a hero. Gopichand and AS Ravikumar are back together after a decade and let’s see the outcome of that.

After a semi-experimental Jil, Gopichand turns back to his routine commercial formula flick laced with adequate fuse of stunts, love, comedy and sentiment. Sowkhyam carries an interesting premise right from the outset with high voltage of fun. The comedy team comprises of experts like Brahmanandam, Posani Krishna Murali, Prudhvi, and Saptagiri among others. In fact veteran heroine Sowkar Janaki plays a small role which evokes some laughter.

Coming to the performances, Gopichand shines bright with an elegant portrayal. His comedy and action scenes work fairly well. The film on the whole looks a little hurried which doesn’t magnify his mass presence at places. Regina looks pleasing to the eyes but one feels her expressions are a little hyped up and artificial and there were lip sync issues as well. The film has a few antagonists but sadly no one makes a noteworthy performance.

It looks like a romance driven film till the end of the first half with occasional action sequences and the second half is just the opposite. The film has enough comedy elements in both the halves. Though it has few moments that sound extremely funny, most times it feels like being recycled from the past. The same goes with romance and sentiment. One could find heavy influences of films like Ready and Bommarillu which takes the charm from the film.

Anup Rubens songs are pretty functional. Though there are a few melody tracks in the album it is the fun ‘Lollypop’ song that leaves a mark. The song placements are poor as it disrupts the already slow narration. Stunts look bogus but they are among the highlights of the film. It is so unreal, you could see a car jump like a horse. There are other scenes too which prove the laws of gravity wrong. Yet they are intense to watch.

Had the makers worked a little more on in tightening the screenplay and not reuse some overly beaten up scenes, Sowkhyam would have been a good family entertainer.

Verdict: Overused premise and over-beaten narration make the watching tired!
